Dr. Robert P. Caren Director and Senior Consultant Dr. Caren was an original founder of Litex in August 1996 and served as its first chairman and chief scientist until July 1998. Prior to his retirement from Lockheed Corporation in June 1995, Dr. Caren held various positions; most recently, corporate vice president of science engineering, where he oversaw all science, technology and engineering activities. Prior to that Dr. Caren served as vice president and general manager of the research and development division of the Lockheed Missiles and Space Company in Palo Alto, Calif. He was responsible for planning and management of all efforts of the division, the largest R&D (1,000 person) center in the aerospace industry. Dr. Caren has served on the boards of directors of Alpharel Corporation, CALSTART, Inference Corporation, Microelectronics and Computer Corporation and Superconductor Technologies Incorporated (SCON). Dr. Caren graduated from Ohio State University with B.S. (1953), M.S. (1954) and Ph.D. (1961) degrees in physics. In 1975 he completed the Columbia University Executive Program in Business Administration. Dr. Caren is a fellow in the following organizations: American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Astronautical Society, and Institute for the Advancement of Engineering. Dr. Caren is also a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a member of the National Academy of Engineering, National Academy of Science, American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Society of Automotive Engineers. Dr. Caren is the recipient of an IR100 Award and a NASA Invention and Contribution Award. He is named on numerous patents and has published more than 40 scientific and technical papers.
